Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) generated from the umbilical cord (UC-MSCs) can dramatically stimulate the DC subset (CD1c+) in SLE patients and upregulate tolerogenic features by reducing the expression of CD83 and other co-stimulatory markers and decreasing TNF-α production while still keeping IL-10 production. The gene discussed is CD1C; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
