The roles of TRPM2 opening on the plasma membrane and on the phagosome are unclear, but since TRPM2 deletion increases susceptibility to polymicrobial sepsis without reducing phagocytosis itself [63], it would seem more likely that they have a role in postphagocytic events (e.g., lysosome fusion), rather than in signalling phagocytosis.
