We demonstrated the importance of the balance of proinflammatory cytokines in controlling the development of CRC using knockout mice for STAT1 (STAT1−/−)—the signaling pathway for several proinflammatory cytokines—in the AOM/DSS model of CAC, by observing that it favored rapid and extensive intestinal damage and increased cell proliferation, leading to the early appearance of tumors [48]. Here, STAT1 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
