IL6 and COVID-19: Consistently, in a recent combined retrospective–prospective study conducted over a period of 20 months, among 6.8% of patients with COVID-19 developing SAT, those with painless SAT (n = 5) presented earlier, had more severe thyrotoxic manifestations and exhibited higher CRP, interleukin-6 (IL-6) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and lower absolute lymphocyte count than those with painful SAT (n = 6) [78].
