Interestingly, studies have shown that the cell cycle gene CDKN2B-AS1, an inhibitor of the cyclin-dependent kinase CDKN2B (p15INK4b), is associated with POAG [51], and knockdown of this gene results in an increase in TGFβ1 expression, demonstrating that control of the TGFβ pathway involves the cell cycle. This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and open-angle glaucoma.
