Plant-derived foods, such as those rich in polyphenols, have been shown to have beneficial effects on cancer through various mechanisms including the regulation of nuclear factor kappa B (NFkB) expression and chromatin remodeling, and the stimulation of apoptotic cell death in preneoplastic or neoplastic cells through the activation of cyto-chrome c and caspases, the arrest of the cell cycle, and the modulation of signaling pathways (NFkB, JAK/STAT) [83,84].
