This could not, however, be confirmed in a subsequent study by Kirschner et al. [19], who found—in line with our results—that fibulin-3 levels in pleural effusions were not significantly different between MM patients and controls, but demonstrated that fibulin-3 levels in pleural effusion fluid were independently associated with prognosis (hazard ratio of 9.92 (95% CI: 2.14–45.93)), also in line with the results obtained by Battolla et al. [31]. The gene discussed is EFEMP1; the disease is Miyoshi myopathy.
