In addition to the findings that Beclin1 is a tumor suppressor in breast and ovarian cancers probably due to its deletion in 40%–75% sporadic breast and ovarian cancers, there are studies suggesting that deletion of BECN1 gene may be due to its proximity to BRCA1 gene and not to its tumor inhibitory functions and BRCA1 deletions cover BECN1 chromosomal position.24, 91. The gene discussed is BECN1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
