A wealth of evidence indicates that the IgG anti-dsDNA antibody isotype is associated with active SLE, particularly renal disease, and is used as a biomarker to guide belimumab therapy.2, 15 By contrast, there is a paucity of data supporting the association between IgA anti-dsDNA antibodies and renal disease in SLE,16, 17 and none to our knowledge that have assessed IgA1 and IgA2 anti-dsDNA subclasses separately, which could explain discrepancies in this small pool of literature. This evidence concerns the gene IGHA1 and kidney disorder.
