However, the percentage of regularly shaped hexagonal RPE cells was significantly reduced to the detriment of irregular shaped RPE and an increase in the variability in size in aged Cd47−/−-mice (Fig. 4), a feature also observed in wild-type mice twice the age [40], hyperinflammatory mice [41], and most importantly in intermediate AMD [42].
