However, p53 suppresses mitochondrial pyruvate uptake through the activation of PUMA in hepatocarcinoma [50] and the catalytic activity of ACO2, an Fe-S cluster protein responsible for the conversion of citrate into isocitrate, in prostate cancer [51], suggesting that p53 may prevent cuproptosis in the context of different cancers (Fig. 3).
