Mutations or genetic deletion of the Shank2 gene are causative for several neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia (SCZ), bipolar disorder, ASD, and intellectual disability.(31, 32, 33, 34, 35) Interestingly, core symptoms of these disorders are also found in animal models for Shank2 deficiency. The gene discussed is SHANK2; the disease is bipolar disorder.
