GJA1 and obesity disorder: Deletion of Cx43 expression in EC cells has been reported to increase EC cellular migration; DNA hypermethylation of GJA1 encoding the protein Cx43 was found in human EC samples which was associated with obesity and in vitro reversal of DNA methylation enhanced intercellular communication and interactions, implying that targeting the activity of gap junction could be used to prevent against obesity-associated EC [105].
