Participants with HIV had over four times higher prevalence of chronic hepatitis B infection (14% vs. 3%; p < 0.001) and higher median serum levels of liver enzymes (ALT 20 U/L vs. 17 U/L, p < 0.001; ALP 90 U/L vs. 77 U/L, p = 0.004) (Table 2).
