EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma: At the first prespecified interim analysis of the CheckMate 816 trial, an international phase 3 randomized study, among 358 patients with stage IB to IIIA NSCLC (as per the 7th edition of the AJCC staging system) and no known sensitizing EGFR mutations or ALK translocations, the addition of nivolumab to 3 cycles of neoadjuvant platinum-doublet chemotherapy significantly improved event-free survival, with a 37% reduction in the risk of disease progression, recurrence, or death, as compared to chemotherapy alone (hazard ratio, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.45–0.87; P = 0.005) (9).
