Overproduction of inflammatory cytokines (so-called cytokine storm) is observed in the severe COVID-19 patients, as evidenced by elevated serum levels of proinflammatory cytokines (in particularly, interleukin-6 (IL6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF)), and C-reactive protein (CRP) (3–5). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is COVID-19.
