For children and adolescents, this is evident in a meta-analysis that identified a higher risk of overweight and obesity for risk genotype in polymorphisms of the FTO gene, in Caucasians (OR: 1.38; 95% CI: 1.29 to 1.49) and Amerindians (OR: 1.22; 95% CI: 1.04 to 1.43), but not in the only study on Africans (OR: 1.05; 95% CI: 0.91 to 1.21) [6]. This evidence concerns the gene FTO and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
