INS and diabetes mellitus: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by inappropriately elevated blood glucose levels and inadequate production of insulin.1 In the United States (U.S.), 4.5% of non-pregnant women of childbearing age (18–49 years) have been diagnosed with DM.2 It is estimated that 30% of non-pregnant women of childbearing age living with DM are undiagnosed.
