While the functions of the esterase SIAE and the transmembrane protein LHFPL2 are unclear, increased expression of each is a marker for poor cancer prognostic: higher expression of SIAE is linked to poorer prognosis for patients with multiple myeloma and higher expression of LHFPL2 is linked to poorer prognosis for patients with liver cancer37,38. The gene discussed is LHFPL2; the disease is plasma cell myeloma.
