MGLL and neurodegenerative disease: Importantly, immune- and inflammation-related genes are significantly upregulated in microglia and astrocytes in tKO, nKO, and aKO, but the upregulation in microglia is predominant in aKO mice, suggesting that inhibition 2-AG metabolism in astrocytes promotes the basal tone of immune vigilance and activates the glial immunity system, which may contribute to anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects observed by inactivation of MAGL in neurodegenerative diseases.
