MGLL and neurodegenerative disease: Upregulation of inflammation-related genes by inhibition of 2-AG metabolism in astrocytes suggests that anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects produced by inactivation of MAGL in neurodegenerative diseases are likely through promoting tonic levels of vigilance or alertness in microglia and astrocytes, particularly in microglia, which enable glial cells to react rapidly to harmful insults or attacks.
