ALDH7A1 and COVID-19: One particular agent, Dipyridamole (DIP), has recently emerged as a potential therapeutic agent for COVID-19 patients due to its broad spectrum antiviral activity against positive stranded RNA viruses and VSV-induced viral pneumonia models in vivo [20, 21], its immunomodulatory activity through inhibition of adenosine uptake into the endothelial and other cells [22] and its phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor activity that may reduce the progressive tissue fibrosis in organs targeted by COVID-19 [23].
