Recently we have found that knockdown of either ELOVL5 or IGFBP6 in breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 led to a strong increase in the expression of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) MMP1, as well as to a change in the expression of a group of genes involved in the formation of intercellular contacts (Nikulin et al., 2021). The gene discussed is ELOVL5; the disease is breast cancer.
