In the prospective case-cohort PREDIMED study (8), plasma concentrations of four Cer molecular species, Cer(d18:1/16:0), Cer(d18:1/22:0), Cer(d18:1/24:0) and Cer(d18:1/24:1) were positively associated with the incidence of cardiovascular events (nonfatal acute myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or cardiovascular death). This evidence concerns the gene CBLN1 and stroke disorder.
