IDH1 mutations in cancer cells result in the production of large amounts of 2-HG (Xu et al., 2011), and the volcano plot shows that 31 metabolites, including 2-HG, were increased (p-value <.05, fold-change >2), and a significant decrease was observed only for 2,3-bisphosphoglyceric acid when compared with that in the WT cells (Figure 5B). The gene discussed is IDH1; the disease is cancer.
