Additionally, it is unlikely that changes in the expression of PR1, PR5, and PDF1.2 are due to changes in methylation status in cis at the promoters of these genes upon nematode infection because nematode-induced potential hypermethylation of these PR genes in four demethylated mutants argues against upregulation of these genes in response to M. incognita infection (Figures 5G–I).
