GPT and polycystic ovary syndrome: A recent retrospective chart review of female adolescents with overweight and obesity aged 11–21 years with PCOS found that Hispanic adolescents who had an elevated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels at the time of PCOS diagnosis were at particularly higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than Hispanic adolescents who had neither or only one of the elevated HbA1c or ALT levels (hazard ratio, 19.0; 95% confidence interval [CI], 3.7–97.2; P<.001) (41).
