In vitro studies showed that increased CEBPA expression in HCC cell lines led to decreased expression of mesenchymal markers such as N-cadherin, Slug, and vimentin and upregulated epithelial markers such as E-cadherin, implying that the upregulation of C/EBP-α helps to prevent epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition.14 The gene discussed is CEBPA; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
