In particular, we found that the decrease in these molecules levels was statistically significant only in the group of patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia intermedia (IL-6 and IL-10) and in the group of patients with thalassemia major (IL-8), thus indicating that multi-transfusions could be responsible for changes in the subsets of immune cells responsible for their productions. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and beta thalassemia.
