In a study with ischemic stroke patients, serum IL-6 levels were monitored at different time points (4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h, 7 and 12 days, 3 months, and 1 year) after stroke to assess the correlation between serum IL-6 with stroke volume, size of the infarction, and long-term functional outcomes (Waje-Andreassen et al., 2005). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and stroke disorder.
