Authors of previous studies and of the present study reported that evodiamine (Evo, compound 1, Figure 1), a quinazolinone alkaloid isolated from the fruit of Evodiae fructus, improves the pathological symptoms of AD by reducing acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, inhibiting oxidative stress, and reducing neuroinflammation (Wang et al., 2016; Zhang et al., 2018; Fang et al., 2020; Chou and Yang, 2021). The gene discussed is ACHE; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
