AKT1 and diabetes mellitus: Interestingly, the previously revealed antidiabetic activity of GSB-214 proveddependent on the activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway, as shown by apharmacological inhibitory analysis [17].Since it is well-known that AD and diabetes mellitus havea similar pathogenesis [18], this factsupports the idea that the PI3K/Akt pathway also contributes to the effects ofGSB-214 in a streptozotocin-induced model reproducing all the majorpathophysiological mechanisms of AD.
