This approach identified four potential candidate genes at three loci that that have not previously been reported in proinsulin or any of the T2D and glycemic studies: SLC2A10, SLC7A14, WIPI1, and ARSG. Loci that colocalized with eQTL signals of more than one gene, such as SIX3 and WIPI1, could correspond to allelic effects on more than one gene, sequential effects, or effects on both genes for which only one gene is physiologically relevant to the trait. The gene discussed is SLC7A14; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
