To address the hypothesis that FOS does not suppress CDI because C. difficile metabolizes FOS via a FOS-specific GH32 enzyme, we performed high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) to determine the extent of FOS utilization by C. difficile grown in FOS-supplemented minimal medium. Here, FOS is linked to clostridium difficile infection.
