Hypertriglyceridemia is a complication of lipodystrophy mainly due to the effect of leptin deficiency and de novo lipogenesis [68, 69]: as over insulin-resistant state, it is secondary to an inefficient capacity to store surplus energy, elevated free fatty acid turnover, VLDL secretion, and decreased LPL activity [68]. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is lipodystrophy.
