The most important link between MALAT1 and HCC pathogenesis appears to be mediated by MALAT1 acting as a ceRNA to affect the target pathways FOXA1/CD24/Src and PI3K/Akt/mTOR, as well as the target genes IAP, ZEB1, and FOXM1. Through these targets, MALAT1 promotes HCC proliferation and angiogenesis, inhibiting apoptosis, and promoting the progression of HCC (34–38). This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
