Studies have found that immune checkpoint molecules, such as programmed death-1(PD-1), cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA4), lymphocyte activating gene 3 protein (LAG-3), and mucin domain molecule 3 (TIM-3), are upregulated on liver cancer cells and tumor-specific T cells, which can lead to CD8+ T cell apoptosis and poor prognosis in patients [10]. Here, LAG3 is linked to liver cancer.
