With regard to the four “classical” combined infection predictors (temperature ≥ 38 °C; WBC ≥ 17,000/mm3 for children less than 4 years old and ≥12,000/mm3 for ≥4 years old; ESR ≥ 20 mm/h; and CRP ≥ 10 mg/L), 15.4% of children with a K. kingae OAI had no positive predictor, 25.6% had a single predictor, 41% had two, 14.2% had three, and only 3.8% had all four abnormal values. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is infection.
