The main novel findings of the current study can be summarized in two main points: (i) satellite glial cells (SGCs), that surround trigeminal neurons and support neuroinflammation and neuronal sensitization, express functional Piezo1 receptors and (ii) FM1-43 can report the previous activity of Piezo1 channels through long-lasting labeling of the key components of the trigeminal nociceptive system implicated in migraines, including neurons and SGCs. The gene discussed is PIEZO1; the disease is migraine disorder.
