In the comparison between the T2DM and CTRL samples, the deregulated genes were involved in inflammation (CXCR4 signaling), cardiac contraction and relaxation (protein kinase A signaling, nitric oxide signaling and renin–angiotensin signaling), cardiac hypertrophy signaling and glucose metabolism signaling (glycolysis, gluconeogenesis and oxidative phosphorylation) (Figure 6E). Here, CXCR4 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
