A study on critically ill patients assessed the role of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) and [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] at ICU admission, and found the latter to be a risk factor for subsequent AKI development, even if AKI was less common in this population than in our population [15]. This evidence concerns the gene IGFBP7 and acute kidney injury.
