The allele T is associated with fair skin pigmentation, and increasing ease of sunburn, but also increased the risk of melanoma or actinic keratosis (Figure 5A); rs12913832, an intronic variant in HERC2 gene, significantly associated with eight of the pigmentary traits (blond hair, brown hair, ease sunburn, ease suntan, Fitzpatrick scale, phototype score and skin color), and diseases affecting the eyes, such as cataract or glaucoma. Here, HERC2 is linked to melanoma.
