A sub-analysis of ROCKET-AF (Rivaroxaban Once-daily oral direct factor Xa inhibition Compared with vitamin K antagonism for Prevention of Stroke and Embolism Trial in Atrial Fibrillation) trial found that in elderly patients (≥75 years old; n = 6229), rivaroxaban had similar efficacy in reducing stroke and systemic embolism (HR = 0.88; p < 0.05) with a lower rate of intracranial bleeding (HR = 0.80; p < 0.05) when compared with warfarin [16].
