Our results suggest that sustained release of verapamil from Vera@CLCMP patches produces reversible autophagic clearance of aggregated proteins and inhibits the TXNIP/NLRP3 inflammasome pathway in in vitro and in vivo models of obesity using palmitate-treated human hepatoma HepG2 cell lines and diet-induced obese mice. The gene discussed is TXNIP; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
