SOX17 regulates respiratory epithelial cell differentiation [85]; therefore, it must be downregulated (Table 1), or its upregulation could avoid epithelial–mesenchymal transition in lung cancer cells, probably as a mutated cancer driver gene and a re-engineered reprogramming factor through the cross-talk with the WNT/β-catenin pathway (Figure 10) [86].
