The competition between EWS–FLI and ETV6 in Ewing sarcoma bears resemblance to a mechanism of ETS TF competition governing cell-fate decisions in developing Drosophila. Pointed, the activating orthologue of human Ets-1, competes for binding at ETS motifs within specific enhancers with Yan, the repressive orthologue of ETV6, to regulate the expression of key differentiation genes in distinct tissues77–81. This evidence concerns the gene FLII and Ewing sarcoma.
