Boumahdi et al. (2014), indicate that SOX-2 plays an essential role in tumour genesis, pointing out the role of SOX-2 in regulating functions in the initiation and progression of squamous cell carcinoma. It was indicated that the expression of this protein in cells originating from the odontogenic epithelium of the dental blade could lead to the development of AME (Juuri et al., 2013). The gene discussed is SOX2; the disease is squamous cell carcinoma.
