In fact, we found that HIC2 is downregulated in glioma cell lines compared to nontumor immortalized astrocyte cells, and mRNA expression levels of HIC2 were negatively correlated with DNA hypermethylation in its promoter, which may explain why, at least in part, the low expression of HIC2 in glioma tissues was due to epigenetic silencing.
