Previous basic studies on Mfap4-deficient mice have confirmed that MFAP4 participated in vascular smooth muscle hyperplasia and vascular remodeling in peripheral artery disease (PAD), and subsequent clinical research revealed that in symptomatic PAD patients upper tertile MFAP4 was significantly associated with cardiovascular death, but a surprisingly decreased risk of occlusion of reconstructed vessel [18]. Here, MFAP4 is linked to peripheral arterial disease.
