Finally, our immunohistochemical markers of microglia (IBA1) and astrocytes (GFAP) were increased in 36-week-old female J20s relative to male J20s of the same age, a result that perhaps mirrors the enhanced prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease in female patients relative to male patients for whom it is approximately twice as frequent (Podcasy and Epperson, 2016; Laws et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene AIF1 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
