Kim et al. reported the dominant papillary subtype as predictive for EGFR TKI sensitivity in patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) (6); Miller et al. reported the bronchioloalveolar pathologic subtype — which may represent several different growth patterns today — as associated with EGFR TKI efficacy in patients with NSCLC (7); and Yatabe et al. observed the overlapping characteristics between the bronchioloalveolar subtype and terminal-respiratory-unit type LUAD, for which the EGFR mutation is specific (8). The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
